It's the arts education you didn't receive in school.

Each week, arts faculty and industry professionals share their experiences with our members in a relaxed, intimate setting. We've heard about the 2011 International Clarinet Festival first-hand from its chair and faculty member, Julia Heinen, learned about Glacier National Park's disappearing glaciers from watercolor artist and faculty member Joy Von Wolffersdorff, been amazed by the antics of Diavolo's Artistic Director, Jacques Heim, and so much more.

We've taken excursions to The Huntington Library to view the John Frame exhibition (John's mother-in-law is an Arts Council member), toured The Gene Autry Museum, viewed numerous quilts on display at the Canoga Park Youth Center gallery, and been wowed by the opening of the beautiful, world-class Valley Performing Arts Center.

As docents, we have donated thousands of volunteer hours in the Art Gallery Store and the Music Shoppe, and ushered at numerous performances.

And, fulfilling our primary mission, we've given thousands of dollars in awards to CSUN arts students to help further their education and their art. With the rising cost of education and the dwindling funding for arts education specifically, we know our encouragement and support makes a difference in the lives of these emerging artists.

Join us, and share an exciting new year of the arts at California State University, Northridge.

Docent Members

Docent members make up approximately half of our membership.  To maintain docent status, members must volunteer 20 or more hours per semester by working in the Art Gallery Store or the Music Shoppe, and by ushering at one of the on-campus music or theatre performances.  Each docent member must work 10 of those hours in the Art Gallery Store. Occasionally there are other opportunities to earn hours during the semester, and those will be announced during regular meetings. Docent members pay the same amount of annual dues as general members.
